ABSTRACT MURAL FOR JOINT LETTINGS AGENCY, BRISTOL

Creating a mural for this student house was a great opportunity for Sophie to play with some geometric and abstract forms. We wanted something balanced and contemporary, fun but not too in your face. The aim being to create a space that was totally unique, with lots of character, an inspiring place for the students to live.

COURTX PORTSMOUTH MURAL 1 OF 2

Sophie Rae spent five days painting two large boards, about 6.5 x 2.5 meters each, on the exterior fences of CourtX tennis courts in Portsmouth. The boards are part of a changing arts program there, along a public path, near the sea front. The motifs take inspiration from the nearby gardens, but are beautifully balanced in her contemporary bold style.

Check out CourtX website for more information.

COURTX PORTSMOUTH MURAL 2 OF 2

The second of the two boards Sophie painted for CourtX in Portsmouth. Her classic blend of botanical motifs and contemporary abstract shapes.

UPFEST 2021 / 75 WALLS 75 DAYS / STREET ART

Sophie Rae created this fun and energetic piece of street art for Upfest in Bristol for the 75 walls in 75 days project in 2021. Working with assistants this playful design transformed a corner of North Street in Bristol, in five days. Two levels of scaffolding helped Sophie reach all corners of this large exterior wall and wrap the design around onto the front of the building above Flip Deli, Cafe and Shop. Painted using brushes and masonry paint. This Upfest special was featured on Best of Bristol and Visit Bristol’s Instagram pages to a huge positive response.

BOLD, COLOURFUL MURAL AT ST BEDES CATHOLIC COLLEGE, BRISTOL

This mural transformed three large unsightly blocks of concrete, acting as a stage backdrop at this Bristol college. Sophie created the mural design following a workshop she led with the students, where she got the valuable insight and ideas that were important to the schools values. This space was transformed over 5 beautifully sunny days.

BOTANICAL, ABSTRACT MURAL AT PWC OFFICES, BRISTOL

This mural brings some character and colour into an otherwise mundane office space in the heart of Bristol, near Temple Meads train station. Sophie has created a space that uplifts the mood of this corporate tech heavy space, with her contemporary and bold design. It provides an inspiring backdrop to the companies daily activities.

CONTEMPORARY, BOTANICAL, ANIMAL MURAL DESIGN FOR WEST LEIGH INFANTS SCHOOL, BRISTOL

This mural transformed a red brick wall entrance way to this delightful little primary school in outer Bristol. The animals represent each of the schools classes and they are intertwined with a bold, colourful pattern that is striking from far away. The school said,

‘Thank you Sophie for the fantastic mural you painted at our infants school over Easter. The staff have told us that it makes such a positive difference to the entrance to our school and helps everyone to start their day with a smile!’

MODERN, ABSTRACT, BOTANICAL MURAL FOR LIEVITO BAKERY, CAFE, SHOP SOMERSET

Sophie Rae painted this mural on three interior walls for a new bakery premises near Castle Cary, Somerset. The mural sits in a space which holds a large communal table just off to the side of the bakery shop and cafe, where people can sit in a shared social space and enjoy a coffee. Sophie went in during the refurbishment of the bakery to paint the mural. Working with an interior designer to incorporate their chosen colour palette. They asked for something bright, contemporary and a fusion of abstract and botanical. This design has been made into a print, which is available from Sophie’s shop page.

COLOURFUL CONTEMPORARY EXTERIOR MURAL FOR PUBLIC GARDEN WALL IN PORTISHEAD BRISTOL

Sophie designed and painted this contemporary, botanical mural for a public garden wall that measured 15 meters long and just 80cm high. With abstract elements that are overlapped with the stylised leaves and flowers that are typical of Sophie Rae’s work. The client said,

‘An exceptional mural design by Sophie for a long wall outside the front of the house. After a short consultation a design was sent to us to review. It was exactly what we wanted - it replicated plants and flowers in our garden, full of bold vibrant colours. We did not make any changes. It was perfect!

Sophie arrived and began the work - it was mesmerising to watch how it was intricately marked out. The paint application had immediate impact - layers of colour built up over three days to produce a beautiful wall. Gone was the old concrete wall - transformed into a piece of garden art.

Very professional service - I would highly recommend!’

ABSTRACT BOTANICAL MURAL FOR THE HOARDINGS ON TEMPLE WAY IN BRISTOL

Sophie installed this design in a long days work, using large, bold, botanical motifs, with pops of colour to appeal to the busy, high traffic area of Temple Way, a main road leading down to Bristol’s main Temple Meads Train Station. This project is an example of how a large space can be completed in less time if the design is tailored to suit, and rollers are utilised to fill-in large sections of the design. The site of this mural measures roughly 8 x 2 meters. Feedback from this quick job was,

‘the mural looks great, the client is really happy and glad you didn’t get sun burnt either!’

It was a very hot day, but the trees provided an excellent canopy of shade.

ABSTRACT, BOTANICAL MURAL FOR RESIDENTIAL HOUSE ON WARWICK AVENUE IN EASTON, BRISTOL

This wall measuring around 2.5 x 2 meters was painted over a couple of days in April 2020. The design started as pencil sketches and was then developed on iPad software. The mural was painted in a colourful, uplifting palette to brighten up the residential street. There are bold block shapes balanced harmoniously with more subtle lines, marks and textures. Floral and botanical motifs are a signature feature of Sophie Rae’s latest mural work.

GRAPHIC GARDEN MURAL FOR RESIDENTIAL HOUSE IN BRISTOL

Testimonial from the client,

‘We contacted Sophie after an article about her on Twitter. She responded promptly and informed us of what she could do for us and provided us with samples of her work from which we chose a design we liked. Obviously Sophie’s availability was constrained by the weather given it was an outside mural, but she was quick to make her availability known as soon as the weather allowed.

Throughout the painting Sophie was professional and ensured no mess was left. She was especially patient with our 6 year old daughter who asked inquisitive questions throughout the process. We were incredibly pleased with the result, it made a very drab, sorry looking wall into a glorious spectacle that many of the neighbors have complimented us on. We would recommend Sophie if you’re looking to bring a little sunshine into your life.’

For this project the client asked if Sophie already had some designs they could look through, so Sophie sent over a small selection including a few prints. The client selected a print they liked and this was adapted to fit the wall. This is an option if you’d like to keep the budget down.

BOTANICAL MURAL FOR MOKOKO CAFE IN PORTISHEAD, BRISTOL

New Portishead café, Mokoko, invites customers with a personalised statement wall mural. The interior design company, Simple Simon, that commissioned Sophie Rae said she,

‘… interpreted the brief really well and her design fitted seamlessly with in our concept. Her design brought the whole space together. Sophie overcame any problem we threw at her. It was a pleasure collaborating with her on this project.’

  • The owner behind Mokoko wanted to have a statement, personalised wall in his café, that was botanical and fitted in with the interior design and colour scheme and made it stand out against other cafés. The design also needed to allow gaps for the textured concrete plaster to be seen, in keeping with other walls on site. It also needed to be finished before the café opened to the public. There was also a section of wall which was not included in the initial measurements given when the mural was designed. Sophie was flexible and amended the design within the set timeframe.

  • Sophie Rae created a botanical repeating pattern that decorated the space in a gentle way, using two specific colours that were used elsewhere in the cafe. The coffee machine was the same green. She worked around a busy team of electricians, plumbers, painters, etc… to get the wall completed in time. Sophie Rae was responsible and trustworthy, opening and locking up the building herself, when working different hours than other contractors.

  • Murals of this kind are beneficial to companies or individuals that want to decorate their space in a personalised way. Sophie Rae listens to your brief and can work flexibly to allow for unforeseen changes.
